What a
match !!!!!!!
One of the
best match in the recent time in Indian Rugby. After a long time a great match
was played between Delhi Hurricanes & Delhi Lions. A close fought match, which was furious most
of the times. Great tackling, great play
in the scrum & Line out by Delhi Lions & equally great play by Delhi
Hurricanes forwards in open play & rucks & great run & moves by
Hurricanes backs. Score was equal till
73rd minute & a small mistake
by debudant Vinod K., who has started rugby just 1 month back was
converted into try by Lions & again Vinod K. could not touch down the ball
at try area in the dying moment of the game & game slipped from the
Hurricanes hands. All the spectators were exited till the end of the match. Each passing moment brought new enthusiasm n zeal in the audience cheering for both the teams. Every body was happy on watching such a match, which happens only in decades...
Lions started
well & had most of the possession in the first 10 minutes & they got 1
penalty during this time, which Centre Happy (Indian National Player) could not
convert. After the initial nerves
Hurricanes opened up & displayed a great running rugby & threatened
Lions try line on few occasion & got a penalty which was converted by their
Centre Deepak Dagar, who is known by the name of Lee. In between, both teams were making furious
tackles. Suddenly Lions lifted the tempo
of their game & made a try through Happy after creating the overlap, but
could not convert the kick. Score was
5-3 in the favour of Lions. Now it was
the turn of Hurricanes, they put pressure through their 2nd row Julien (a French
national) & Nitin Dagar, both had a great game. Result of their work, a quick ball from the
ruck was received by Fly half Sandeep, who passed to Deepak, who gave it to
Pradeep Bisht (Outside Centre), who swayed opposite OC & made a great try. Try was converted by Deepak, but it was
denied by Referee Francoi’s Dupont (Hurricanes Chief Coach) as one of the line referees
didn’t raise his flag . After this Lions got the penalty before the post, which
was converted by Happy. Just before the half time, a fight was broken between
the teams & few punches were exchanged & referee blew his whistle for
the half time. Score was 8-8.
Unlike
previous matches, boys looked fresh in the start of 2nd half &
immediately tempo was up again from both of the teams. Both teams were trying
to put pressure on each other, but were scoreless till 73rd
minute. Both the teams missed the
opportunity, as defence was too good from both the teams & attacking the team was
forced to make silly mistakes. In the 73rd
minute Lions made a brilliant move through their full back who ran across in
the scrum & created overlap on the blind side & newcomer Vinod K. left
his opposite man open, who made final try of the match. After this try, Hurricanes made furious
attacks on Lions half & got 2 chances, but could not convert them into a
try, as on the Ist occasion Fly half didn’t pass to his waiting line &
tried to go through the defence, although they got penalty, but they chose to
kick it for the line out as they needed a try to remain in the match. Pressure was on Lions. In the line out Hurricanes lost the ball
& Lions fly half kicked the ball behind Hurricanes attacking line. Full back Arun ran back, took the ball from
his own 22 & ran through the opposition & passed it to Deepak in the 30
mtrs of Lions half, who kicked the ball beautifully through the defence line of Lions &
winger Vinod picked up the ball before the 5 mtrs from try line got entered in
the try area but could not placed the ball down as try saving tackle was made
by Lions winger, so the inexperience of the Hurricanes cost them the match.
Hurricanes
Captain Shantanu kicked very well in this match & made few strong runs,
Scrum half Gautam Dagar had an exceptional match where he did nothing wrong,
their backs Sandeep, Deepak, Pradeep, Raunak & Arun had terrific game, they
looked always threatening to Lions try line.
Flanker Nitin was outstanding & Julien, who had Ist game for
Hurricanes made the difference in the team & Sanjeev, who occasionally used
in the backs in the line out made few great runs. Nagar & Jagga were
fantastic in the line out & Kunj & Gaurav were good in support play.
Chief Coach Francoi’s Dupont showed his
satisfaction after the match & Coach Kuldeep Bist hoped team will go
far after this match.
